Gritman Medical Center

OPPORTUNITY We accept student volunteer applications year-round. This exclusive opportunity is open to University of Idaho undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. Placement opportunities are available across both clinical and non-clinical departments. Clinical placements operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a preferred minimum of 4 hours and a strict maximum of 12 hours per day. Before applying, please consider the time commitment and level of responsibility required. If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact, we invite you to submit your application and join our team! REQUIREMENTS • Minimum 20 hours per semester commitment for at least one academic year • Must be enrolled in a University of Idaho undergraduate or graduate program • Enrollment must be applicable to the placement area within Gritman • Responsible for self-pay fees related to vaccination records and background check; costs may vary depending on vaccination status. • Preference given to applicants who: – Plan to volunteer for a minimum of three years – Are currently attending the University of Idaho EXPECTATIONS • Maintain professional conduct at all times • Arrive on time, park in designated areas, and communicate any scheduling changes in advance • Follow The Gritman Way in all interactions • Follow Gritman dress code: - Modest, professional dress is required - Scrubs and tennis shoes acceptable for clinical placements - No jeans, sweatpants, or graphic t-shirts PLEASE NOTE: Please note that Gritman Medical Center does not reach out after you sign up in VolunteerMatters. It is your responsibility to complete all required steps, complete required credentialing, and email us at volunteer@gritman.org once finished. Do not sign up for shifts until your final interview is complete, you’ve received approval, and have your volunteer badge.

Gritman Medical Center offers meaningful opportunities for high school students to engage in the healthcare environment through volunteering and structured senior projects. These programs are designed to encourage personal growth, community service, and career exploration for students interested in healthcare and related fields. JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS The Junior Volunteer Program is open to high school students between the ages of 16 and 18 who wish to volunteer on an ongoing basis. Junior Volunteers assist staff with non-clinical tasks and contribute to the daily operations of the hospital. Volunteer hours generally follow regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PROJECTS For students completing a high school senior project, Gritman provides an opportunity to explore various healthcare career paths through a guided learning experience. Participants will work with staff and mentors to complete an approved project that may include: • Conducting interviews with healthcare professionals • Performing research related to a healthcare topic • Observing a shift with a staff member (as appropriate to the project scope) This experience allows students to gain valuable insight into the healthcare field, develop research and communication skills, and better understand the teamwork that supports patient care. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS • Must be a high school student between the ages of 16 and 18 • Must demonstrate maturity, reliability, and a willingness to learn • Parental or guardian consent required prior to placement • Volunteer hours and project activities are limited to Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

Gritman Medical Center

This program is for WWAMI students participating in any clinical rotations within the Gritman Medical Center system at the University of Idaho. Participation may include preceptorships, WRITE placements, or other contracted educational agreements through the WWAMI Program. WWAMI students complete all required paperwork, scheduling, and placement processes directly through the WWAMI Program. Once placement is confirmed, students will receive additional site-specific orientation materials and instructions from Gritman Medical Center.

Community Volunteers assist staff in maintaining the smooth flow of day-to-day operations across various non-clinical departments. This position offers flexibility and the opportunity to work in multiple locations as tasks arise. Volunteers help enhance patient and visitor experiences while supporting the hospital’s mission of caring for our community. Advisor verification of contract requirements ensures a formal agreement between the department and the educational institution to fulfill the required educational hours for the student’s degree program.

ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS • This program is by invitation only. • The student must be enrolled in a higher education institution that has a formal agreement with Gritman Medical Center. • All interns must have an applicable degree—either completed or in progress—relevant to the department or area of specialization. • Students may not independently apply for an internship. • Interns must have an established point of contact, such as an advisor, school representative, or department head, who coordinates and verifies the placement. EXPECTATIONS • Follow all Gritman policies, including dress code, professional conduct, and safety protocols • Complete all required training, background checks, and vaccination verification before beginning the internship as per contract. • Maintain communication with both the department and institutional point of contact regarding progress, scheduling, and any concerns
