Gritman Medical Center offers meaningful opportunities for high school students to engage in the healthcare environment through volunteering and structured senior projects. These programs are designed to encourage personal growth, community service, and career exploration for students interested in healthcare and related fields. JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS The Junior Volunteer Program is open to high school students between the ages of 16 and 18 who wish to volunteer on an ongoing basis. Junior Volunteers assist staff with non-clinical tasks and contribute to the daily operations of the hospital. Volunteer hours generally follow regular office hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PROJECTS For students completing a high school senior project, Gritman provides an opportunity to explore various healthcare career paths through a guided learning experience. Participants will work with staff and mentors to complete an approved project that may include: • Conducting interviews with healthcare professionals • Performing research related to a healthcare topic • Observing a shift with a staff member (as appropriate to the project scope) This experience allows students to gain valuable insight into the healthcare field, develop research and communication skills, and better understand the teamwork that supports patient care. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS • Must be a high school student between the ages of 16 and 18 • Must demonstrate maturity, reliability, and a willingness to learn • Parental or guardian consent required prior to placement • Volunteer hours and project activities are limited to Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.

All clinical volunteers should use charge nurse of department as primary point of contact while on shift (Primary). For questions or assistance regarding volunteer placements: volunteer@gritman.org or 208-883-6470

All volunteers must immediately report any injury to their department shift supervisor and/or the House Supervisor. Volunteers are expected to follow all safety protocols and guidelines to protect themselves, patients, staff, and visitors.

• Violation of HIPAA or any safety policy will result in immediate termination. • Failure to adhere to the schedule, dress code, or general volunteer expectations—including tardiness or missed shifts—may result in termination from the program. • Gritman reserves the right to terminate a volunteer at any time for failure to meet program requirements or maintain professional conduct.
